Tremors registering 8.3 on the richter scale have shaken the very foundations of the 400 year old game of golf - a game invented and played by gentlemen.  For on Saturday 6th March in the year two thousand and ten anno domini, the Pirates, a ramshackle collection of reprobates, womanisers and pillagers did emerge victorious in the World Team Championships.  There was much head scratching, much checking of the results, more head scratching, then confirmation that it was true. With five and a half points the Pirates had reigned victorious over such talented teams as Pride & Glory, the Mavericks and the pre-tournament - record short odds favourites - the Eager Beavers.

The R&A have called an Extraordinary General Meeting to establish whether there should be urgent and radical rule changes.  Forget Tiger - will the game of golf survive this latest controversy?  The world is still spinning on its axis but only just...
